My Filipino maid is a nice girl, good with my daughter, but I have to her go.

I have had this Filipino maid Indola for three months now. She is a sweet girl and is fantastic with my daughter who is 2 years old now. However, she does not seem to know the first thing about cooking, cleaning and other aspects of housekeeping. She came to me highly recommended by her previous employer who lied to her and to me that she was letting her go because her husband was being recalled to San Fran.

I have been very patient with Indola. I have tried to explain things to her, but end up getting frustrated. She takes a week to put away the laundry. When I was at home and without a maid, I managed to do all that in a couple of hours.

I told Indola to wash the bathrooms everyday and at first she complied but soon was neglecting to do so. When I checked her she said she had time to do it only twice a week. She claims there is so much to do. And now she has time to do the dusting only once a week!

She is getting up later and later. Yesterday she was still in the bathroom at 7.40. As a result breakfast was not ready by seven and my husband had to skip breakfast.

Then just last week, on a Thursday, she asked for permission to go to her cousin's birthday party. I said okay, but on condition that she be home by 10 p.m. When she was not home by 11.30 p.m. I got so anxious I could not sleep worrying if she had met an accident, etc. Finally at around 2 a.m. or so I dozed off in the living room. At 4.30 a.m. she came knocking. When I opened the door, she calmly walked past me and went straight to her room, without a word of apology or greeting.

Please advise me what to do. I am really at wit's end.
